The 59-year-old driver, though assessed by paramedics, declined to be taken to the hospital for further care. It is also believed that he has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving. First time offenders could be slapped on the wrist with a hefty $5,000 fine or 6 months of jail term.
The crash had caused such a loud sound, that it had shocked residents in the Geylang Serai district. Several of them had sprung into action to help at the accident scene. Mr Rizal and his friend had rushed to the scene to help anyone who was injured as he was trained as a medic in army. Many others helped divert traffic away from the crash scene.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) had sent a convoy of a fire engine, Red Rhino and an ambulance to the scene. They were also seen removing the damaged banner.
