You might think that since you passed the drivers license test, you know all the right ways to drive your precious car. Let us tell you 6 things you probably didn’t know you were doing wrong while driving.

  1. Putting your hands at 10 and 2

For ages, the norm has been to place your hands at 10 and 2 while holding the steering wheel. But new research shows that this could be dangerous, if the airbag deploys, crushing your hands. A better position is to keep your hands at 9 and 3 instead, which will also gives you more control of your car.

  1. Hand over hand turning

For the same reason, instead of ‘hand over hand’ turning you should instead use a ‘push-pull’ motion. That is to push the wheel with one hand and pull with the other, while never crossing your hands.

  1. Coasting downhill in neutral

Braking while going downhill will boil the brake fluid causing the brake to malfunction. Instead stay in a lower gear while going downslope as it uses the engine to slow you down.

  1. Braking during corners

This transfers the weight of the car to the front and the rear tyres won’t have enough traction. So slow down before you get to the curve!

  1. Keeping too much stuff on keychain

A heave keychain weighs down on the ignition and may eventually cause it fail. So keep your keychain light!

  1. Blasting your radio

We all love to turn our car into our personal club. But research has proven that the louder the environment, the slower your reaction time. So either turn off your music or keep it at a lower volume!

So follow these rules and stay safe!
